Famous Tweets In History Series

Famous Tweets - Einstein - Infinite Human Stupidity

It’s 26 AD and Jesus is Tweeting the two commandments; 1942 and Albert Einstein is Tweeting that human stupidity is infinite.

Twitter has been around forever, and everyone is alive at the same time.

My series, “Famous Tweets In History”, visually transforms controversial or historical words by the famous and infamous, revealing something about them or us. Some of those words are Tweets, and others are quotes from interviews, books, or movies.

Each creation resembles Twitter and a stylized ID card with a hidden code. The Followers, date, time, Retweets and Likes all have a meaning related to the message or the Tweeter: It’s 1938 and Frida Kahlo Tweets about her struggles with alcohol; Johnny Depp Follows her because he, too, has struggled with alcohol.

The Einstein Tweet of 1942 has 3.1M Retweets and 415,926 likes. Why?

That is the number of pi – 3.1415926…

Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali influence the aesthetics: I paint the portrait of the person after a distinctive or highly recognizable image, and I reinterpret it in a pop art/surrealistic stylization with an emphasis on texture. I use spontaneous, expressive colors to  portray the flashy yet shallow way we see and represent the world, celebrities, and our obsession with fame. I also paint each Follower in a style that accentuates their personality, character, or the message.

This series of digital paintings reflects the intersection of technology, social media and our cultural evolution and regression. My passion and insights into human behavior move me to expose the intense emotions and biases of our world in a way that provokes a response while simultaneously exposing/satirizing the conflict of the absurdity and surrealism of our own lives.

My Famous Tweets in History are satirical, comedic, playful, or historically significant. I am not attached to any ideology: I focus on provoking thought, emotion, and conversation. Is it art if it doesn’t make you feel anything?
